WORCESTER — Worcester police say they arrested a 22-year-old woman early Saturday after a man was stabbed during a fight in a downtown parking lot.
Officers patrolling Water Street at around 2 a.m. Saturday saw a large group shouting and pointing toward a scuffle, according to police. As they approached, they witnessed a man collapse while a woman moved aggressively toward him.
Police said officers separated the pair. The woman tried to flee but was quickly detained. The man was found with a stab wound to his left abdomen. While receiving aid, he told officers he had never met the woman before and that she attacked him unprovoked.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A pocketknife was recovered at the scene, police said.
Makayli Melendez, 22, of Worcester, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. She was taken into custody, and the Worcester Police Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation.
