WORCESTER — A man who showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound was arrested Thursday on firearms charges after police connected him to a shots fired incident in the city, authorities said.
Worcester police said officers responded around 5:40 p.m. Thursday to a ShotSpotter alert near Boys & Girls Club Way. At the scene, they found a gun, other evidence, and bullet damage to both a vehicle and an apartment window.
While canvassing the area, officers with the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit encountered a man later identified as 22-year-old Willie Watson of Worcester. Police said he ran through traffic with his hands at his waistband before being detained. A loaded gun was recovered, and investigators determined Watson did not have a license to carry. He faces multiple gun and disorderly conduct charges.
Shortly afterward, 20-year-old Chance Toney arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound that police said was not life-threatening. Investigators determined Toney was also armed at the scene and did not possess a license to carry. He is charged with carrying a gun without a license, possessing an untraceable gun, and on an outstanding warrant.
No bystanders were injured. The Detective Bureau and Crime Gun Intelligence Unit are continuing the investigation, police said.
