Worcester pharmacy to pay $750,000 over false Medicare billing

  • Google

A Worcester-based pharmacy has agreed to pay $750,000 to resolve allegations that it improperly billed Medicare for medications it did not dispense, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.

Trang Pharmacy, which is listed as having a storefront at 456 Park Ave., admitted that from January 1st, 2016, through January 13th, 2023, it submitted claims to Medicare’s Part D program for certain medications without being able to prove it had purchased the drugs, according to the settlement agreement.

Federal authorities allege the pharmacy sought reimbursement for medications it lacked in inventory and therefore did not dispense to Medicare beneficiaries, resulting in false claims submitted to the government.

The settlement resolves claims brought under the False Claims Act. The case was handled through a coordinated effort by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts and the Justice Department’s Civil Division, Commercial Litigation Branch, Fraud Section. The agreement includes no determination of liability beyond the admissions outlined in the settlement.
