Worcester man faces charges after foot chase, ghost gun found

  • WORCESTER — A Worcester man is facing multiple charges after police say he threw a “ghost gun” during a foot pursuit following a traffic stop earlier this month.

According to the Worcester Police Department, officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 7:49 p.m. on March 7th after observing the driver fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign near Millbury Street and Fifth Avenue.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Carlos Ketter of Worcester, told officers he did not have a valid driver’s license. Moments later, police said, Ketter fled the stop at a high rate of speed, driving recklessly through several streets.

Ketter eventually exited the vehicle on Fox Street and ran from officers. Police said he failed to put the vehicle in park, causing it to roll and strike 2 Worcester police cruisers.

During the foot pursuit, officers observed Ketter throw an object onto an offramp by Interstate 290. He was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

Officers later recovered a gun in the area where the object was thrown. Police said the weapon was determined to be a ghost gun, meaning it did not have a serial number. Authorities also recovered a black magazine and loose ammunition with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police.

Police said Ketter did not have a license to carry a gun or a firearm identification card. The Worcester Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit took possession of the gun.

Ketter is charged with carrying a gun without a license, receiving an untraceable firearm, improper storage of a gun, 2 counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating to endanger, along with additional motor vehicle-related offenses.
