WORCESTER — Worcester police say they are increasing staffing and coordinating with regional partners after learning of a social media post advertising a possible street takeover event planned for Saturday evening.
The Worcester Police Department said it became aware Friday, April 3rd, of a post promoting a street takeover scheduled for Saturday, April 4th, at 7 p.m. Officials said their primary concern is maintaining public safety as such events can draw large and unpredictable crowds.
Police said street takeover-style gatherings can create hazards for visitors, employees, business owners and residents, prompting the department to develop a proactive response plan.
In response to the planned event, Worcester police said they have coordinated staffing, developed a comprehensive operational plan and are working closely with law enforcement partners to ensure appropriate resources are available.
Officials said the department will continue monitoring information related to events of this nature and will respond as needed to protect the community.
