WORCESTER — A 17-year-old male was recently arrested following a joint investigation by Worcester and Auburn police into an incident involving a gun at an Auburn business, according to the Worcester Police Department.
Members of the Worcester Police Department Crime Gun Intelligence Unit and Gang Unit made the arrest on gun-related charges April 7th after working with the Worcester Police Detective Bureau and the Auburn Police Department.
The investigation began April 3rd, when Auburn police were dispatched to a local business after a clerk reported suspicious behavior involving a male customer attempting to sell several electronic devices. After completing the sale, the male left but returned minutes later acting frantic and ran behind the counter to retrieve an item he said he had left inside one of the devices.
While assisting the male, the clerk observed that the item retrieved was a gun. The male also removed a second item that appeared to be a sock containing heavy objects before fleeing the store, police said.
Auburn and Worcester detectives later identified the juvenile male involved in the incident. Worcester police units set up surveillance at the male’s residence and stopped him shortly after he left.
Based on information gathered during the investigation and statements made by the juvenile’s mother, detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the search, officers located a gun and ammunition.
The juvenile was taken into custody without incident on April 7th. Auburn police detectives continue to investigate the incident in their town, and additional charges may be filed.
