Pair of 2-alarm fires keep Worcester crews busy overnight

  • WORCESTER — Firefighters battled two separate two-alarm fires overnight, including one across from The Hanover Theatre on Main Street and another on Neptune Road that left a person hospitalized.

The first fire was reported at about 11:13 p.m. at 554 Main St., directly across from the Hanover Theatre. According to scanner audio, crews responded to a general fire alarm activation and discovered fire in the rear of the building that had spread inside a wall and was making its way upward.

Firefighters worked to knock down the bulk of the fire and then moved through the upper floors to check for extensions. Investigators were called to the scene as crews continued overhaul operations.

Shortly before 2 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a second 2-alarm fire on Neptune Road. Paul Shea Photography reported heavy fire showing on arrival, with crews making a quick knockdown.

During the Neptune Road incident, firefighters conducted a rescue, and a victim was transported to a hospital in unknown condition. According to the post, a police officer drove the ambulance during the emergency response.

Worcester firefighters remained busy through the overnight hours handling the back-to-back incidents. The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
