Worcester police seize untraceable gun in Canal District

  • WORCESTER — A 21-year-old Worcester man faces multiple gun charges after police say he retrieved a gun that had been dropped from a vehicle on Green Street Saturday night.

    Officers were dispatched to Green Street shortly before 10:30 Saturday night for a report of a person with a gun, according to the Worcester Police Department.

    Witnesses told police that a vehicle was traveling in the area when someone inside dropped a gun onto the roadway. Officers responding to the scene located several rounds of ammunition scattered on the ground.

    Police said that moments later, a man ran into the area, picked up the gun and fled on foot.

    Following an investigation, officers identified a suspect nearby on Green Street and took him into custody. Police identified the suspect as Reynaldo Martinez, 21, of Worcester.

    The gun was recovered and determined to have no serial number, according to police.

    Martinez was charged with carrying a gun without a license, possession of an untraceable gun, possession of a large-capacity gun, possession of a gun without a Firearm Identification Card, and additional gun-related offenses.

    No injuries were reported.
