WORCESTER — A 48-year-old Worcester man is facing multiple gun, drug and alcohol charges after police say officers found a loaded ghost gun and suspected fentanyl inside his backpack at Winslow & Pleasant Park, also known as Peace Park.

According to the Worcester Police Department, officers were dispatched to Winslow & Pleasant Park on Pleasant Street shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday for a report of an assault. When they arrived, they found no fight, but observed a man lying on the ground with an open container of alcohol and his personal belongings scattered around him.

Police said an officer checked the man's unzipped backpack for additional alcohol contraband and discovered a loaded handgun along with suspected fentanyl.

The department's Crime Scene Unit responded to recover the weapon, which investigators determined was a ghost gun — an untraceable handgun without a serial number.

Police identified the man as Robert McMahan, 48, of Worcester. Investigators determined he does not have a license to carry a gun in Massachusetts.

McMahan is charged with carrying a loaded gun without a license, possessing ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card, carrying a gun while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, receiving an untraceable firearm, and additional drug and alcohol-related offenses.
