WORCESTER — A historic church property that has stood on Main Street for more than a century is on the market for $1.6 million.

The Rock of Salvation Pentecostal Church at 829 Main Street was built in 1905 and is being offered for sale as an investment or owner-user property, according to a LoopNet listing. The listing describes the building as containing 19,626 square feet, including a full basement, on a 0.35-acre lot.

The property has a long history as a place of worship. A 1907 Worcester city directory identified the address as First Church of Christ, part of the Disciples of Christ denomination, and said the congregation was founded in 1860. The property is also documented in the Massachusetts Historical Commission's MACRIS historic-property database.

The commercial listing says the building has nearly 10,000 square feet on its main level and includes an industrial kitchen, steam heat and a gable roof. The property is being sold as-is.

The site is zoned BG-3, or Business General, which the listing says could allow the property to be considered for redevelopment as well as continued institutional use. The property is also within a designated Opportunity Zone.

The asking price works out to $81.52 per square foot. The listing gives the property's total assessed value as $1,015,400, including $238,500 for the land and $776,900 for improvements.

The property was first placed on the commercial market last year, according to LoopNet. The listing is being handled by Cristian Negron Rivera of TRUEX Commercial.
