WORCESTER — Renovations at South Worcester Playground will begin tomorrow (Tuesday), resulting in temporary closures of the park's courts, playground and adjacent baseball field.

The Worcester Parks, Recreation & Cemetery Department said the handball and basketball courts on Cambridge Street will close September 1st for renovations. The work is expected to continue through summer 2027.

The adjacent Babe Ruth baseball field will also be unavailable during the project for safety reasons and is expected to remain closed until the court renovations are completed.

The playground area will remain open initially but is scheduled to close September 21st for separate renovation work, according to the city.

That portion of the project is expected to be completed on or before October 21st, allowing the playground to reopen well before work on the courts and baseball field is finished.
