    WORCESTER — Coes Reservoir has reopened after testing showed cyanobacteria concentrations have fallen below levels considered a threat to public health, the city of Worcester announced.

    In addition, Coes Pond Parks and Stearns Tavern also have reopened after being temporarily closed because of a police investigation, the city said.

    The city said it received testing results August 28th showing cyanobacteria cell densities in Coes Reservoir exceeded the state's recreational threshold. Subsequent testing showed the densities had declined and no longer posed a public health threat.

    Cyanobacteria occur naturally in bodies of water but can produce toxins and become harmful when concentrations reach high levels.

    Worcester operates a cyanobacteria monitoring and management program designed to protect recreational waters and wildlife. More information about cyanobacteria is available through the city's "The Blue Space Minute" video series.
