WORCESTER — A months-long investigation into illegal gun trafficking in Worcester led to the arrest of a city man and the seizure of more than 38 guns and ghost gun frames, along with equipment used to manufacture guns, police said.

The Worcester Police Department's S.W.A.T. team arrested the man on a gun trafficking charge following an investigation involving local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Police did not release the suspect's name or age.

Investigators seized more than 38 guns and ghost gun frames, a 3D printer allegedly used in the gun manufacturing and trafficking operation, 2 silencers or suppressors, 6 high-capacity ammunition magazines and ammunition.

Ghost guns are privately manufactured guns that typically lack serial numbers, making them difficult for law enforcement to trace. Some can be assembled using frames or receivers produced with 3D printers.

The investigation was conducted by the Worcester Police Department's Crime Gun Intelligence Unit in coordination with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Worcester police Gang Unit and the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit.

Police did not disclose where the guns were seized, when the arrest occurred or whether additional arrests are expected.
