Overnight: 3-alarm fire tears through Vernon Hill three-decker

  • A three-alarm fire tore through a three-decker in Worcester’s Vernon Hill neighborhood last night.

    According to the Worcester Fire Department, no one was injured in the fire at 16 Cargill Ave., which was reported at about 10:30 Sunday evening.

    Heavy fire in the back of the house extended to all three floors, the basement and the attic, according to a tweet by the Worcester Fire Department. 

    The house at 14 Cargill Ave. sustained some damage. Residents of both buildings, 29 in all, were displaced.

    YouTube user Mordenghainer Duarte posted a 14-minute video showing the fire from a neighboring house.

    The glow from the fire could be seen throughout Vernon Hill, as a shared photo from lower Vernon Street shows (below).
