HOLDEN — A late-night fire severely damaged a single-family home on Bullard Street early Sunday, but all occupants were able to evacuate without injury, according to the Holden Fire Department.
Crews were called to 497 Bullard St. at 12:55 a.m. after flames were reported on an exterior porch. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the porch and inside the kitchen, with heat spreading toward the attic, officials said. A working fire was declared, bringing automatic aid from neighboring towns as firefighters worked to keep the blaze from extending deeper into the home.

Holden Fire Chief Russ Hall said firefighters mounted a quick attack, knocking down the flames and bringing the fire under control. The home sustained extensive damage, but no injuries were reported. Residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Fire crews from Rutland, Paxton, West Boylston, Boylston and Sterling responded to the scene, while Worcester Fire, Leicester Fire and Spencer EMS provided station and ambulance coverage. Holden police, HMLD and the Department of Public Works also assisted.
The District 8 Fire Investigation Unit has been called in to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
Photos posted by the Sterling Fire Department show crews working under heavy smoke conditions, with visible fire damage to the front porch and exterior of the home.
