Woman wins $1 million on scratch ticket bought in Auburn

  • AUBURN — A woman from Thompson is celebrating a $1 million win after purchasing a holiday-themed lottery ticket in Auburn, the Massachusetts State Lottery announced Tuesday.

Helena Greenleaf won the prize on a “$2,500,000 Merry & Bright” $10 instant ticket. She chose a 1-time payout of $650,000 before taxes and plans to invest most of the winnings, treating herself to a celebratory lunch.

Greenleaf bought the winning ticket at Cumberland Farms at 502 Washington St. in Auburn (above, Google). The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

The holiday-themed game, launched in October, features top prizes up to $2.5 million and offers players a second chance to win cash prizes with non-winning tickets. Additional details are available at masslottery.com.
