Closed a full year, Worcester restaurant announces reopening

  • A year to the day that it closed its doors and had to lay off a majority of its staff because of the effects of COVID-19, Armsby Abbey announced that it will reopen.

In a Facebook post early Monday evening, the restaurant posted: “Today marks one year since we last welcomed you inside Armsby Abbey. ONE YEAR! The wait is almost over... we will be re-opening our doors in April! Stay tuned for details on our opening date, menus, reservations, & Covid protocols in coming weeks. We have missed everyone dearly and can't wait to serve you all again soon!”

Like most restaurants, Armsby Abbey offered takeout and delivery during the early days of the pandemic.

Limited space kept the restaurant from taking advantage of sidewalk dining in the summer and fall.

On June 21, it announced it would close all together and reopen on Sept. 1, writing: “That's a wrap folks! Thank you to everyone near & far who has come out over the last three months to support us. For today marks the end of our quarantine meal service at Armsby Abbey. At 4 o'clock, we locked the doors, turned off the lights, and walked out into the sunshine. Albeit temporary, we already miss you. See you September 1st “

On Aug. 30, Armsby Abbey announced it would remain closed, writing: “Armsby Abbey will ride out this storm and re-open when the time is right. Unfortunately, September 1st, is not the right time. Thank you for all your love, support, patience, & understanding.”

The right time, it appears, is in April.
