Multi-agency chase leads to arrest of wanted man

    RUTLAND — In a dramatic operation late Friday night, 35-year-old Stephen Martin of Bennington, Vermont was apprehended after a multi-agency vehicle pursuit that ended in a foot chase, the Rutland Police Department reported.

    The pursuit began shortly after midnight and concluded with Martin crashing his vehicle at the intersection of routes 122A and 68.

    According to the police report, Martin, who had an outstanding arrest warrant and a suspended Vermont driver’s license, fled on foot after the crash. He was tracked to a nearby property where he had broken into a camper in an attempt to hide from law enforcement. Rutland officers, with assistance from other agencies, located and arrested Martin without further incident.

    Martin faces a slew of charges from several departments, including breaking and entering and failing to stop for police. He is currently being held at the Worcester County Sheriff's Office on $7,500 bail. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday, February 5th.

    The Rutland Police Department praised the collaborative effort in their Facebook post, stating, "Great teamwork between all agencies to get this person off the street." This incident highlights the effectiveness of multi-agency cooperation in apprehending suspects who pose a threat to public safety.
