46-year-old man dies in jet ski accident at local pond

    RUTLAND — A 46-year-old man from Attleboro drowned after a jet ski accident at Turkey Hill Pond on Saturday afternoon, according to the Rutland Police Department.

    The incident occurred at 4:23 p.m. when the Rutland Police and Fire departments were dispatched to the pond following reports of an overturned jet ski and a missing operator. Witnesses stated that the man appeared to be in distress before disappearing under the water.

    Emergency responders, including the Fire District 8 Dive Team, several area fire departments, the Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Environmental Police, conducted a thorough search of the area by boat and along the shore.

    At approximately 7:49 p.m., divers recovered the body of the Attleboro man. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

    The Rutland Police Department is investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident with assistance from the Massachusetts Environmental Police and the Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
