WORCESTER - A Worcester homeowner interrupted a break-in on Saturday, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of stolen items.
At around 5:15 p.m. on May 6th, Worcester police officers responded to a residence on West Boylston Street following a report of a breaking and entering in progress. The homeowner, who had just arrived home, said his house had been vandalized and rummaged through, and that the suspect was still inside.
Officers found the male suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Joseph Hayes of 16 Winter Street, North Brookfield, in the backyard. Hayes was found in possession of stolen items, which were promptly returned to the homeowner.
Hayes now faces charges of breaking and entering during the daytime with intent to commit a felony, larceny from a building, and willful and malicious destruction of property.
