Elderly man arrested for drug trafficking in Worcester

  • WORCESTER — A 69-year-old Worcester man was arrested early Monday morning on charges of cocaine trafficking following a search warrant executed by the Worcester Police Department's Vice Squad.

    The operation took place at a Vernon Street residence where officers detained James Washington, the target of the investigation, at approximately 6:35 a.m.

    According to police, the search of the premises yielded several bags suspected to contain cocaine and crack cocaine, alongside digital scales, packaging materials and other paraphernalia associated with drug distribution.

    Washington faces charges of trafficking in a Class B substance, specifically 37-99 grams, and possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute. The specific substances are believed to be cocaine and crack cocaine, which fall under Class B and Class A categories, respectively, according to state law.

    The Worcester Police Department has not released further details about the operation or whether additional arrests are expected.

    James Washington is currently being held pending arraignment.
