WORCESTER — A routine evening at a local McDonald's turned chaotic when a Worcester woman was arrested for theft from a motor vehicle and vandalism, among other charges, police said in a social media post

The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 30th at the McDonald’s on Shrewsbury Street, where a Worcester police officer was stationed for a paid detail. Authorities said Carmen Ortiz, 29, of Channing Street, approached a customer at the restaurant asking for money. After the customer declined, Ortiz allegedly hurled insults and exited the premises.

The situation escalated when the customer discovered Ortiz rummaging through his car's glove box. Upon confrontation, the officer on duty intervened. Despite Ortiz's denial of theft, the officer observed and pointed out the cash clenched in her fist, leading to Ortiz dropping the money and attempting to flee.

The customer, who reported $300 missing from his wallet, retrieved his cash but opted not to press charges. However, the altercation took a violent turn when Ortiz, in a seeming fit of rage, ran up to the customer's car and kicked it, causing noticeable damage.

Ortiz faces multiple charges, including larceny from a motor vehicle, vandalism, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
