Man stabs woman in Downtown Worcester, police arrest suspect

  • WORCESTER — A Worcester man was arrested early Thursday after allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times during an altercation downtown, police said.

    Officers responded to Front Street shortly before 1 a.m. for a report of an assault with a dangerous weapon, the Worcester Police Department said in a statement. They found a woman with stab wounds to her arms and legs and provided aid before she was taken to a hospital.

    Police later interviewed the victim, who said she had been walking with a man when he began grabbing her against her will. She said she pulled out a knife to defend herself, but he responded by drawing his own knife and stabbing her.

    Witnesses provided a description of the suspect, and officers found him on Grafton Street with a knife in his possession, police said.

    Gunga Collis, 50, of Worcester, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
