WORCESTER — A woman was arrested Monday evening after allegedly stealing a running vehicle, crashing into a police cruiser, and leading officers on a brief but dangerous pursuit, according to Worcester police.
Officers responded around 4:25 p.m. to Sterling Street, where a woman reported her car had been stolen while she was picking up her child. The suspect, identified as Omaira Torres, 43, of Worcester, was later spotted driving the stolen vehicle on Millbury Street around 5:41 p.m.
When officers attempted to stop her, Torres reversed and struck a police vehicle before fleeing down Millbury Street and onto Harding Street, where she drove into oncoming traffic. She came to a stop at the intersection of Harding Street and Quinsigamond Avenue, where she was taken into custody.
Police said Torres’ license was suspended at the time of the incident. The stolen vehicle was towed from the scene.
Torres faces multiple charges, including larceny of a motor vehicle, assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police, and operating with a suspended license.
