Worcester man gets 6 years for loaded guns, silencer

  • A Worcester man has been sentenced to 6 years in federal prison for unlawfully possessing 2 loaded guns, ammunition and an unregistered silencer while on pretrial release for unrelated state gun charges.

Ryan Davidson, 40, received the sentence Tuesday in federal court in Worcester. U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman also ordered Davidson to serve 3 years of supervised release following his prison term. Davidson pleaded guilty in March to being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and to possessing an unregistered firearm silencer.

Authorities say that on May 9th, 2023, Worcester police stopped Davidson for a traffic violation and questioned the Georgia dealer plate on his vehicle. After he failed to show proof of insurance, officers told him the car would be towed and inventoried. Davidson fled the scene on foot but was quickly caught in a nearby backyard. At the time, he was wearing a GPS ankle monitor related to separate state charges involving a gun.

An inventory search of his vehicle revealed a black bag in the trunk containing a black balaclava and a zipped blue pouch. Inside were a Polymer P80 9mm pistol with no serial number, a magazine loaded with 10 rounds, a silencer, and a box of 9mm ammunition. Officers also found a Taurus 9mm pistol with a round chambered and 6 rounds in the magazine in the glovebox.

Davidson had previously served a 7-to-10-year prison sentence for felony convictions, making it illegal for him to possess firearms or ammunition. He was originally indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2023, with a superseding indictment returned in November.
