>WORCESTER — A Declared Winter Parking Ban will take effect in Worcester at 11 p.m. Monday as the city prepares for an expected snowstorm.
City officials said all municipal parking garages will be free beginning at 5 p.m. Monday for any vehicle entering after that time. Event parking rates will still apply for drivers attending special events. Recommended garages include Federal Plaza, Major Taylor, Pearl & Elm, Worcester Common and Union Station.
The city announced several service changes ahead of the storm. Bulk waste drop-off will be closed Wednesday, while sand pick-up and recycling drop-off will operate at 1065 Millbury St. Additional sand locations at 22 Albany St. and 299 Clark St. will be open before and after plowing operations. Leaf collection will pause Tuesday, with updated route information available on the city website.
During the parking ban, parking is prohibited on both sides of main arteries, emergency and bus routes, and key downtown streets. On all other streets, parking is allowed only on the odd-numbered side unless posted otherwise. Residents can look up their street designation online at worcesterma.gov/streets/winter-weather/winter-parking.
Officials warned that towing and ticketing may be enforced to keep roads clear for plows and emergency vehicles. Questions and towed-vehicle inquiries may be directed to Worcester 311 by dialing 3-1-1, emailing 311@worcesterma.gov or visiting worcesterma.gov/311. Residents can also use the 311 app or email to submit requests at any time.
Residents are urged to limit travel during the storm, allow extra time on the roads and give plows and treatment vehicles room to operate. Property owners must clear sidewalks within 10 hours after a storm ends and are encouraged to clear snow from nearby hydrants and catch basins. The city reminded residents not to push snow into the street.
More information about Worcester’s winter parking rules and snow-removal policies can be found at worcesterma.gov/streets/winter-weather/snow-removal. Officials said ALERTWorcester remains offline and updates will be shared on social media as available.
