WORCESTER — A man wanted in connection with multiple shooting incidents in Worcester dating back to 2019 has been arrested in Texas after several years on the run, police said Monday.
Kenneth Diaz, 29, was taken into custody December 3rd in Houston following a multi-agency investigation involving local, state and federal law enforcement. Diaz had been wanted on 3 active arrest warrants related to shootings in Worcester and had evaded capture since 2022, according to the Worcester Police Department.
In November, members of the department’s Gang Unit, Crime Gun Intelligence Unit and Detective Bureau met with the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the United States Marshals Service to review evidence and share intelligence tied to the shooting investigations.
During that review, investigators identified a woman believed to be associated with Diaz who had disappeared following a 2022 shooting in which Diaz is a suspect. Police said her social media activity had stopped and her location was unknown.
U.S. Marshals later determined the woman might be living in Houston. While conducting surveillance, marshals observed her in the company of a man who was later confirmed to be Diaz. Authorities entered the residence on December 3rd and took Diaz into custody.
At the time of his arrest, Diaz was found in possession of several guns and body armor, police said.
Diaz was returned to Massachusetts on December 17th by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and is expected to appear in court.
Police credited the arrest to extensive collaboration and information sharing among the Worcester Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, state police and federal authorities, saying the case likely would not have been resolved without the coordinated effort.
