WORCESTER — Worcester police and partnering law enforcement agencies reported deterring several planned street takeover events across the city over the weekend, resulting in multiple arrests and traffic citations.
The Worcester Police Department said officers developed a comprehensive operational plan ahead of the anticipated events and worked closely with surrounding police departments and the Massachusetts State Police.
Authorities said several areas believed to be targeted for takeovers were successfully prevented, including locations at 865 Grafton St., Newton Square, Pullman Street, Lincoln Street, Madison Street and Park Avenue near Chandler Street.
Police reported that the operation resulted in 12 arrests and 19 traffic citations or warnings issued in Worcester.
In October, the state announced a plan to stop street takeovers, according to an article by Channel 10 in Boston.
The department thanked community members, the Massachusetts State Police and surrounding municipal police departments for their support during the coordinated effort.
Officials noted that street takeovers are dangerous and unpredictable events and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
