The owner of 133 Gold Star Blvd. in Worcester has plans for the former Crown Bakery
Last year legendary Crown Bakery closed its doors for good after six decades in Worcester.
2020 also saw the opening of the Bean Counter’s second location on Grove Street and the opening of Crust Bake Shop’s second location at 1 West Boylston St.

Fans can be heartened that Crown’s legend will live on after the Bean Counter inherited Crown’s Swedish recipes. But new bakeries close by made replacing Crown with another bakery on Gold Star Boulevard less likely.
Now we know what will replace Crown at 133 Gold Star Blvd.
The former Crown Bakery is in the process of becoming a meat market, according to documents on file with the City of Worcester.
Building owner Crown Crossing Associates LLC applied to the city for a building permit on Nov. 19. It was approved on Dec. 20.
The permit’s description of work reads, “Interior alterations to change from bakery to a meat market; paint, install new shelving, counters, flooring, etc.”
A quick look inside the former bakery gives no indication of who the new occupant will be.
The meat market will continue the revitalization of the North End of Gold Star, which has been largely vacant since Reliant Medical left its offices there for Neponset Street. As Worcester Business Journal reported in November, Seven Hills Foundation will move You Inc. and two others the refurbished Gold Star office building.
