Holden Police Department (Facebook)
HOLDEN – The Holden Police Department is urging the community to stay alert and report directly to them after a student reported a suspicious incident on Monday, March 25th. According to officials, a man in a vehicle approached the student who was walking home from a bus stop on Bullard Street around 2:45 p.m., offering a ride home.
The police were immediately notified of the incident, prompting an exhaustive search in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Despite their efforts, officers were unable to locate the reported vehicle or gather any information leading to the identification of the individual involved.
In response to this incident, the Holden Police Department has increased patrols during school bus pickup and drop-off times throughout the week. However, the department has faced challenges in verifying the incident due to conflicting descriptions circulating on various social media platforms. These discrepancies have not only hampered the investigation but also led to widespread rumors and a false report at a local business.
The Holden Police Department has decided against posting about the incident on social media to prevent the spread of unsubstantiated information and unnecessary panic among community members. "We take these reports very seriously," said a spokesperson for the Holden Police Department. But, they added, "By posting partial information to social media or information that has not been substantiated by investigating officers, there is a serious risk of rumors and unnecessary concern."
The department emphasizes the importance of direct communication with law enforcement rather than relying on social media for public safety concerns. They encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or has relevant information to contact them directly.
As the investigation continues, the Holden Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of its residents, especially young students in the community. They ask for the public's cooperation in keeping a vigilant eye and reporting any suspicious behavior.
