HOLDEN — Major updates are underway on Main Street as the Mass. Department of Transportation and its contractor begin resurfacing the road with new hot mix asphalt. The project will include significant changes to traffic flow and safety features, expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Among the most noticeable changes will be the addition of bicycle lanes on both sides of the road, including a buffer area to provide extra safety for cyclists. These lanes will stretch through the Salisbury Street intersection, with buffer zones of varying widths separating vehicle and bicycle traffic.
Several intersections along Main Street, including those at Highland, Salisbury, and Malden streets, as well as Industrial Drive, will see the creation of "Left-Turn Only" lanes. A shared "Left-Turn" middle lane will also be added between Industrial Drive and Sherwood Hill Drive.
Following the resurfacing, crews will re-install the decorative crosswalks that were previously in place and add new pavement markings. Residents interested in previewing the new striping plans can visit the updated project page on the town’s website.
Holden’s Department of Public Works reminds residents that the Main Street resurfacing project is entirely managed by Mass. D.O.T., and feedback or concerns should be directed to their District 3 Headquarters.
