Worcester police bust 2 in Main South drug sweep

  • WORCESTER - On February 9th, officers assigned to the Worcester Police Neighborhood Response Team conducted a targeted enforcement operation in the Main South area. The operation resulted in the arrest of 2 individuals for drug offenses.

    At approximately 11:10 a.m., officers observed a female, later identified as Sallybeth Carmona-Torres, standing near the intersection of Main and Chandler St. Officers observed a male approach Carmona-Torres, who looked around before giving the male a small object. Officers developed probable cause that Carmona-Torres had sold the male fentanyl. Officers placed her under arrest and discovered additional chunks of what appeared to be fentanyl. She was charged with Possession of a Class A Substance (fentanyl) with intent to Distribute.

    Later in the day, at about 1 p.m., N.R.T. officers were on patrol in the area of Main and Chandler St. An officer observed a male, later identified as Carlos Lopez, receive paper currency from another male and give a small object. Officers developed probable cause that Lopez had sold crack cocaine, and placed him under arrest. Officers recovered several additional bags of what appeared to be crack cocaine. Lopez was charged with Distribution of a Class B Substance and Possession of a Class B Substance with intent to Distribute.

    The Worcester Police Department's Neighborhood Response Team will continue to enforce drug laws in the Main South area, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote public safety and reduce drug-related crime.
