WORCESTER — The Diocese of Worcester announced the merger of Saint Roch Parish in Oxford and Saint Ann Parish in North Oxford, effective September 1st. Bishop Robert J. McManus decreed that the new parish will be known as Saint Roch Parish, with Saint Roch Church as the sole worship site.

According to a decree issued July 9th, the merger follows an extensive review by Renewal Committees from both parishes, which analyzed financial status, parish life and facilities.

Saint Ann Parish, established in 1926, has struggled financially and logistically compared to Saint Roch Parish, founded in 1886.

Saint Ann’s average weekly income is $2,800, while Saint Roch’s is $7,900. Additionally, Saint Ann is projected to be $60,000 in debt by August.

In addition, the decree notes, "Both Saint Ann Parish and Saint Roch Parish share one pastor, currently Reverend James J. Boulette."

Saint Roch Parish has better facilities, including a larger, more accessible church and ample parking. The parish census shows Saint Roch has 1,120 households and an average weekend Mass attendance of 300, compared to Saint Ann’s 341 households and 120 attendees.

As part of the merger, Saint Ann Church will be closed and sold. All assets, liabilities, and sacramental records from Saint Ann will be transferred to Saint Roch Parish.
