Wormtown Brewery co-founder and former Wachusett Brewing president unite to open Double Down Brewing Company
The circle of life is coming to the Massachusetts craft beer scene this week as original co-founder of Wormtown Brewery Tom Oliveri and recent Wachusett Brewing President Christian McMahan are getting back together to launch their new brewery in Worcester.
Double Down Brewing Company opens Thursday, September 16th. The duo has had a successful history together. Oliveri co-founded Wormtown in 2010 and it quickly became a favorite in the local beer community. He brought in McMahan a few years in to design their branding and packaging, including the iconic Be Hoppy label among many others and helped catapult the brand to new heights. Oliveri exited Wormtown in 2017. McMahan joined Wachusett that same year.

Also joining Double Down Brewing Company as Head Brewer will be Brian Wells from highly regarded Left Hand Brewing Company in Longmont, Colorado.
“I could not be more excited to be back in the beer business”, said Tom Oliveri. “Being a part of building Wormtown into the success it is today was a once in a lifetime opportunity, except now we hopefully get to do it a second time” Oliveri concluded.
“Tom and I have been friends for over 20 years” added Christian McMahan. “We worked so well together in our past life and once we started talking with and getting to know Brian, it just felt like the right time to bring it all together ” McMahan concluded.
“I’m thrilled” said Brian Wells. “My passion to create world-class beers is what drives me and to have partners like Tom and Christian who share my vision and have so much experience to help me bring it to life is like a dream come true” Wells added.
In another nod to their past, the brewery will be located at 455 Park Ave in Worcester, adjacent to Peppercorn’s which was the original location of Wormtown Brewery and will include an expanded taproom, outdoor beer garden and retail space.
