WORCESTER — Worcester Police Department officers arrested a 30-year-old man on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting two elderly men at a Dunkin Donuts on Park Ave., according to a police statement released late Tuesday evening.
Officers responded to an 8:20 a.m. report of an assault at the popular coffee shop. Upon arrival, they spoke with one of the victims, a 72-year-old man who recounted how he was sitting with friends when approached by Manuel Santiago, who asked for money. When the group declined, Santiago left but returned minutes later wearing a black ski mask and allegedly struck the 72-year-old man and another 72-year-old man who attempted to intervene.
One of the victims was transported to the hospital with a broken nose. Officers were able to identify Santiago using surveillance footage and issued a "be on the lookout" (BOLO) alert.
While police were canvassing the area, another call came in reporting a man harassing customers near the Dollar Tree at 50 Mill Street. Officers located and arrested Santiago, charging him with 2 counts of assault and battery on a person over 60.
Santiago also faces additional charges for providing a false name during the booking process, according to Worcester Police.
