WORCESTER — A baseball game at Kendrick Field ended in a large-scale brawl on Monday evening, with 3 people now facing charges, according to a Worcester Police Department statement Tuesday.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to reports of a fight at the baseball field on Brooks Street. Officers found that the altercation had ceased, but began gathering information and interviewing witnesses.
According to police, the brawl erupted as the players were concluding their game and shaking hands on the field. The fight involved players and family members. One adult man was injured after being tackled and was evaluated by paramedics. His injuries are considered minor.
Tensions continued to mount as a family, informed that a relative was punched by someone on the field, approached the scene aggressively. One 17-year-old male from the family charged at a group on the field. Despite repeated commands from a police officer to stop, the teenager attempted to bypass the officer, clenching his fists.
The officer, perceiving an imminent assault, issued a warning and ultimately deployed his taser to halt the teen's actions. The teen is now facing charges of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
As part of the ongoing investigation, 2 Worcester men - a 22-year-old and a 45-year-old - will be summonsed for assault and battery. Further information about their involvement is yet to be disclosed.
Worcester police are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with further information about the incident to come forward.
