The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has fined the owners of Pan Glo New England in Worcester $11,607 for multiple violations at Goddard Memorial Drive facility.

The violations include air pollution, hazardous waste mismanagement and failure to submit required Toxic Use Reduction documentation, according to a press release from MassDEP.

Pan Glo, an industrial company specializing in equipment design, manufacturing, coating, and refurbishment, was found in violation following an odor complaint and subsequent inspection by MassDEP in March 2023. Inspectors discovered caustic odors emanating off-site, poor management of air emissions, and multiple breaches of hazardous waste protocols.

“When manufacturing operations have the potential to cause odors from the materials and solvents they produce, they must take all necessary steps to ensure these odors do not create a nuisance or worse in their surrounding community,” said Mary Jude Pigsley, Director of MassDEP’s Central Regional Office in Worcester. “We appreciate that Pan Glo has taken responsibility, paid their fine and committed to complying with the state’s air pollution and hazardous waste requirements.”

As part of the settlement, Pan Glo has agreed to pay the fine and submit a report detailing actions taken to eliminate off-site odors. The company will also conduct emissions testing and opacity observations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
