LOOK INSIDE: New McDonald's open on West Boylston Street

Months after closing, the new McDonald's at 766 West Boylston St., built from the ground up after the previous restaurant was demolished, opened at 11 a.m. today (Thursday).
Here's a look at what's in store at a brand-new, state-of-the-art McDonald's.

The new McDonald's has dual drive-through ordering lane. Nothing new there.

We need to go inside to see what's new.

The first thing you see when you walk inside are the massive touch-screen ordering stations, complete with card-payment systems (bottom).
Notice you can also place eat-in orders, grab a number on the side of the station and take it to your table.

The woman greeting customers said the touch-screen ordering works much like the cellphone app. Notice you can customize your stuff.
Later on, she said, you'll be able to pay with cash. On opening day (we were customer No. 5) it was cards only, and it hadn't yet been connected, so we were left with a ticket we had to take to the register.

The booths at the back of the restaurant are pretty Spartan but pretty room.

The main dining room has a combination of stools, chairs and booth-style seating.
And the registers, where you can order from an employee, are much, much smaller. To the left of the registers are where you pick up your orders.

The other side of the dining room has a combination of booth-style seating and chairs.
We're told the technological changes extend into the kitchen, where a new generation of equipment includes things like a conveyor belt. With, by some estimates, one of every eight people having once worked at a McDonald's, it sounded like this is not your father's McDonald's.
Oh, and about the food, hey, it's McDonald's, where the hallmark is consistency.
