Unsafe conditions, wall collapse shuttered restaurant in May 2017

Less than 3 years after the building it’s in was deemed unsafe and its back wall collapsed during a controlled demolition ordered by the city, the Great Wall Chinese restaurant, 521 Main St., reopened this morning [Thursday].
The interior has been completely renovated, a wall separates the kitchen from the front counter.
The front counter has been shortened and a mini-buffet added. A served buffet at lunch is $6.75 and comes with the choice of 3 dishes. Extra dishes are $1.50 each and the buffet is $1 extra after 4 p.m.

The menu is standard Chinese restaurant fare.
The Great Wall is open 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11-11 on Friday and Saturday, and Noon-10 on Sunday.
The website listed on its menu and business cards, www.greatwallworcester.com, was not working this afternoon.
The opening comes less than 3 years after the city of Worcester ordered the building closed because of a failing back wall.
The Worcester Sun reported, “According to a source who works in a nearby building, on Tuesday, May 30, [2017] city officials deemed the structure at 521 Main St. unsafe and evacuated staff at the neighboring MetroPCS at 517 Main St. and residents living in the apartments above it.”
Days later there was a controlled demolition of the back wall.
